Jordan Peele, through his Monkeypaw Productions, is creating another horror film for Universal Pictures, three years after the theatrical debut of Nia DaCosta’s Candyman remake. After much delay, the studio revealed the new title and 2025 release date for Peele’s Marlon Wayans-starring film, formerly known as GOAT.
The next psychological horror thriller from Universal Pictures will now officially be called Him, according to Reporte. The movie is slated to open in theaters on September 19, 2025, of the following year. After appearing in the Netflix comedy Sextuplets, which he also co-wrote and produced, for almost five years, Wayans is taking on his first solo leading role in a very long time with this project. His most recent acting credit was as George Raveling, the former coach of Michael Jordan, in the sports drama film Air from last year.

This upcoming film, which is being produced by Jordan Peele, will be Wayans’s debut role in a major horror film. Despite his familiarity with the genre, the humorous actor has only acted in horror comedies like the Scary Movie series. He co-wrote the first two chapters with his brother Shawn Wayans, and one of the highlights of those films was his iconic and hilarious performance as Shorty Meeks. In the 2022 horror comedy The Curse of Bridge Hollow on Netflix, Marlon Wayans also acted as a realist father who despises Halloween.
Justin Tipping, who has directed episodes for popular shows like The Chi, Black Monday, Dear White People, and Joe vs. Carole, is in charge of him. The forthcoming horror movie will be Tipping’s second full-length feature film, after the Mahershala Ali-starring indie adventure Kicks from 2016.
In the film Him, penned by Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the authors of Limetown, Wayans plays a legendary quarterback entrusted with mentoring a budding young athlete at his remote estate. Rappers Guapdad 4000 and Tierra Whack, along with actors Julia Fox, Tyriq Withers, Tim Heidecker, and Jim Jefferies, appear alongside Wayans in the film.

Most recently, Peele produced Dev Patel’s critically acclaimed feature directorial debut, Monkey Man. After being pleased by the British actor’s commitment to the role and his vision for the picture, the Oscar-winning director stated in an earlier interview that he would be interested in producing an action film with Patel in the lead role. “In this regard, my action movie probably wouldn’t be as ambitious.
Peele stated, “It would be a different incorporation.” “But what I connected to about this film is that Dev didn’t stop himself from indulging in all the gifts that these genres can give us. I’m inspired by him, and I think I’m definitely going to be calling him to help me do some action. I mean, what I need to do is just cast him. And then I’ve got an amazing action director in my lead role!”
In regards to Peele’s much awaited fourth directing endeavor, fans anxiously awaiting his next masterpiece after Get Out, Us, and Nope were left in suspense about the film’s narrative and characters. As far as Peele is concerned, his fourth film may be his best to date. “I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right,” he stated.
While Nope is already available for streaming on Peacock, Him has its theatrical debut on September 19, 2025.
