THE CITY OF PUNE’S FIRST UNDERGROUND METRO STATION will open in November after receiving approval from the railway safety department.

The Pune metro rail is developing a total of 30 km of rail route from Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad to Swargate in Phase I. The route from Vanaz to Ramwadi is elevated, while the route from Pimpri Chinchwad to Rangehill is elevated and underground from Shivajinagar to Swargate.

Both routes have been partially operational since March, from Vanaz to Garware College and from Pimpri Chinchwad to Phugewadi. The Pune Metro intends to extend service from Garware College to the civil court by the end of December. The civil court serves as an interchange station, with both routes intersecting.

“Approximately 85 percent of the Shivajinagar underground metro station is complete and will be ready by the end of the month.” However, it will not be operational until Railway Safety is cleared,” said Brijesh Dixit, MD of Maha-Metro, which is implementing Pune Metro rail.

He stated that the extension from both sides will provide connectivity from Vanaz to Pimpri Chinchwad and will encourage the use of Metro rail in the city. Except for Kirkee and Rangehill, all of the stations will be operational when the operations begin, according to Dixit.

Shivajinagar Metro station is a multimodal integration with easy access to Shivajinagar railway station, PMPML and MSRTC bus depots. It will also be linked to the Hinjewadi Metro station via the civil Court route.
