Compared to the past, when hatchbacks were the most popular selling cars in India, new car purchasers now favour SUVs. Only four hatchbacks—all made by Maruti Suzuki—are included among the top 20 best-selling cars in November 2023, according to current sales data.
The Waggon R is the best-selling vehicle among them and the best-selling vehicle in November. The automaker sold 16,567 units last month compared to 14,720 units sold the previous month, marking a 13% YoY increase. Second place goes to the Swift, which sold 15,311 units and saw a flat 1% gain over the Waggon R.
The situation is different for the remaining three hatchbacks on the list, since each of them saw negative growth in November 2023. With sales of 12,961 units despite a 38 percent decline in sales, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is the third-best seller.
The next model, with 8,076 sales, is the Maruti Suzuki Alto. Sales of the once-best-selling automobile in India fell by 48% in November 2023. The Hyundai i20, which sold 5,727 units, comes in second place to the Alto, completing the list of the top five hatchbacks sold in Indis in November 2023.
