Chevy Trax to Feature E85-Compatible Engine by 2025

With a few significant upgrades over the first 2024 Chevy Trax, the most recent 2025 Chevy Trax marked the official debut of the all-new, second-generation Chevy Trax for the 2024 model year. According to information obtained by GM Authority, one of those modifications is the addition of flex fuel capabilities, meaning that the 2025 Chevy Trax will be able to run on E85 gasoline. It’s interesting to note that the power, torque, and engine RPO code of the 2025 Chevy Trax are identical to those of the 2024 Chevy Trax.

For readers who might not know, E85 is essentially fuel that contains a high percentage of ethanol—between roughly 51 and 83 percent—mixed with petrol. The ratio of ethanol to petrol varies depending on the region and season. Typically, “regular” petrol has an ethanol content of about 10%. Cars that can run on E85 fuel are referred to as flex fuel cars. E85 gasoline is growing more and more popular in the United States, especially in the Midwest where corn is the main ingredient used to make ethanol for E85 fuel.

E85 has a few benefits over regular petrol, such as a stronger resistance to engine knock, a reduced reliance on foreign oil, and maybe less air pollution. On the other hand, E85 might potentially result in lower gas mileage and more difficulty starting a car in frigid areas. Note that E85 fuel is not advised for cars without flex fuel capability.

According to information obtained by GM Authority, the 2025 Chevy Trax will have an engine that can run on E85 fuel. Under the hood of the 2024 Chevy Trax is the same turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine with the same output numbers: 137 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 162 pound-feet of torque at 2,500 rpm. But the new engine will also have the RPO code LBP, which will show that it can run on flex fuel. All 2025 Chevy Trax model levels will come standard with the new flex-fuel enabled engine.

Recall that the GM VSS-F vehicle set serves as the basis for the second-generation Chevy Trax, which is produced at the GM Changwon facility in South Korea.
